Free School Meals

COVID-19 Update-We understand that the times we are living in continue to be uncertain and challenging.  Alongside this many families are facing changes in their financial circumstances.  If you believe that you NOW may meet the following criteria below, please complete an online application www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals to receive an instant response.

If you have any queries in relation to free school meals entitlement please contact the Education Welfare Benefits Team on ewb.fsm@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or telephone them on 01223 703200.

As you may be aware the Government introduced universal free school meals for all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children in schools.  At Norwood we have provision for a hot meal or ‘High Five’ lighter lunch option.  Please see menus under the News & Events tab above.

The government initiative of Pupil Premium is still very much an important focus for schools.  Each child entitled to Pupil Premium triggers addition funding of up to £1320 for schools to target additional support and enhance provision.  Any parents/carers living with children can qualify for this funding. Parents/Carers need to be in receipt of any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

  • Universal credit, provided they have a annual net earned income not exceeding £7400.00, (£616.67 per month)
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

In addition to your child receiving a free hot lunch each day, the school will receive Pupil Premium which will enable school to offer reductions on school trips and other chargeable items and full reduction on school clubs.

Please do contact Miss Fletcher in the school office if you require further support with any application or have any queries regarding free school meals.
