Spring 2

This term our learning will be focussed on our whole school theme, Matilda.

Theme: Matilda

Our learning this term will be based around the Roald Dahl’s book; Matilda. This is our whole school theme and we will be performing a Matilda show at Queen Katharine Academy. Read below to find out what Matilda is about:

Matilda Wormwood's father thinks she's a little scab. Matilda's mother spends all afternoon playing bingo. And Matilda's headmistress Miss Trunchbull? Well, she's the worst of all. She is a big bully, who thinks all her pupils are rotten and locks them in the dreaded Chokey. As for Matilda, she's an extraordinary little girl with a magical mind - and now she's had enough. So all these grown-ups had better watch out, because Matilda is going to teach them a lesson they'll never forget.

English

In English we will be reading and focusing on Matilda. As part of this focus we will be exploring the range of writing techniques that Roald Dahl uses to make such exciting and enjoyable books, we will then use these to produce our own exciting fiction story! We will also continue to develop our reading by exploring the book in greater detail, as well as answering a range of questions about it. When reading the book, we will work as class and use our drama skills to deepen our understanding of the book and bring to life the images that Roald Dahl puts in our head when we read his books!

We will be working on measuring and comparing length, volume and mass, whilst applying these skills to solving problems. We will also be continuing to find fractions of numbers and using these skills to develop our problem solving and mathematical reasoning. Times tables knowledge will be very beneficial in maths this term, so we will be focusing on making sure that we know our times tables.
