Spring 2

Our whole school theme for this term is Roald Dahl’s book ‘Matilda’. Our class have really enjoyed bringing in their own copies of our books from home, so please do send in their named copies and they can read along during Storytime.

In English we will be using the characters from Matilda to write character descriptions, where we will use our knowledge of noun phrase, adjectives and adverbs, we will interview modern day teachers and write newspaper reports about what it is like to be a teacher. We are excited to write you letters to persuade you to come in to try our brand new alternative chocolate cake designs, something Bruce Bogtrotter would be proud of! Our reading will include learning how a chocolate bean is turned into chocolate and the journey it takes.

We are writing our own stories to fill Matilda’s library, and sharing as many stories as we can in school including reading them aloud to the Reception children.

We have been working really hard on our 2, 5 and 10 times tables (even 3s!) and now need to focus on division facts within these. Thank you for supporting us with this so much at home, it has made a real difference. This term our focus is on measurement and shapes (including 3D shapes and their properties), with key learning about money and how to buy ingredients for our chocolate cakes. This will help us to understand and learn about giving change from £1. Your children are amazing at telling the time, even down to the minute.

Fractions, half, quarter, third, whole, equal, faces, vertices, edges, pounds, pence, change, o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past

In our topic learning we are really focussing on plants from around the world, comparing and contrasting plants and what they need to survive in different environments. This will also teach us about the journey seeds make. We hope you will enjoy the alternative chocolate cakes we hope to design and make. Our favourite part of the term will definitely be preparing our performance as part of the whole school performance ‘Matilda’ please see your year group letter for costume requirements.
