Summer 2

2017 Summer 2 – Theme Parks

Welcome to the second half of the Summer Term 2019; here is an overview of key learning areas this half term.

Theme: Theme Parks

This half term our learning will be focussed around human geography and theme parks - we will also be exploring electricity and electrical circuits.

English:  Writing

Our literacy work will explore non-fiction writing. This will involve writing letters, adverts and leaflets linked to theme parks and also include a poetry competition based on roller coasters!

English:  Reading

Within our guided reading sessions the children will explore non-fiction texts and author’s deliberate use of language and sentence structure to persuade/engage the audience. Please continue to support your child by ensuring they read for a minimum of 10 minutes a day, either to themselves or to somebody else, and ensuring they have their reading diaries signed daily.

Our maths this half term will be linked heavily to theme parks and the data handling elements will include ICT and spreadsheets. We will also be focussing on investigations that require the children to think deeply in order to solve problems and reason mathematically. Science: Electricity

We will be looking at different aspects of Electricity this half term and where ever possible this will be linked to Theme Parks and their use of electricity. There will be lots of  opportunities for the children to design, carry out and draw conclusions from their own experiments with how electrical circuits can be constructed to solve problems and record the circuits through scientific diagrams.
